These portraits belong to an upcoming series titled Activists of Richmond. For the past two years I have been recruiting, photographing and painting activists working to improve the lives of residents of our city. These formal portraits have been co-constructed. The activists choose their clothes and pose, while I use multiple references to come up with a composition that speaks to who they are.
